SPAIN has confirmed for the first time it will welcome Brits back to its beaches in June.
UK holidaymakers are to be allowed to take a trip there with a digital health pass following conversations between the 2 governments.
Spanish tourism minister Fernando Valdes Verelst said: “June will be the start of the recovery of tourism in Spain.
” Already, we will have a digital vaccination certificate in place and we will have the ability to reopen our borders.”
He said Spain was pushing for the UK’s proposed digital pass to be “equally identified”, including he welcomed PM Boris Johnson’s plans to reboot worldwide travel.
Spain– the destination for 17.4 million Brits a year prior to the pandemic– is desperate to restart tourist.
It will begin a trial of accepting digital passes for its own nationals at Spanish airports next month with the goal of preparing for UK holidaymakers showing up in June.
We exposed last Thursday that Brits would be welcomed with open arms to European hotspots this summer season thanks to the UK’s jabs success.
Spain, Portugal and Greece were leading the push as EU chiefs talked about resuming borders to sunseekers.
Mr Verelst also forecasted that Spain needs to be on the UK’s green list in the proposed traffic control system by June– suggesting Brits returning home from the Costas will not be needed to quarantine.
He explained: “Because of the development in our vaccine rollout with 22 per cent of our population having had their first dosage already, we anticipate by June to be at the green light.
” We are having close conversations with UK authorities and we are exchanging information on Spain’s digital system and the trial happening at our airports in May.”
